What’s Most Important!

It’s been a little over 2 years now that I experienced the most terrifying day (to date) of my life. My dad had an emergency open heart surgery for a triple bypass and a valve replacement.

I’ve always been “daddy’s little girl”, so seeing my dad laid up in a hospital bed was scary … what would my life be like without him?! I didn’t even want to think about that …

Every single day in that hospital my oldest daughter played the part of her papa’s doctor. She put a princess band aid on him every morning telling him this is what was going to help him get better.

My dad claims to this day that both my daughters being there is what got him through – their smiles and especially the band aids and the walks through the hallways during his recovery (which my oldest would say she was taking papa for his walk).

Both of my girls were (and still are) my dad’s “why” – 2 perfect reasons to live longer and commit to being the healthiest he can be. I’m sure my mom and myself were a part of it too! But to see my dad’s face when my daughters walked into his hospital room … was priceless!

I’m grateful every day for having my dad alive and well and seeing my girls grow.

I strive every day to do my best and to worry less about what’s out of my control. One of my health goals is to live my healthiest life so I can live longer for my husband and my daughters.

And being my healthiest means doing everything in my power to move more and eat healthier. Even on my most “sluggish” days when I don’t feel like doing anything, I focus on doing my best on those days to move when I can and to make the healthier snack choice. We all know it’s easier to grab that bag of chips then to peal and orange!

So, starting today, I want you to focus on your “why”. What motivates you to live a healthier life? To set goals that will push you to be a healthier version of yourself.

My husband, my girls, and my parents are my why!

What’s yours?!
